When SolarWinds is the right call
If you run a large network estate with a dedicated network team, SolarWinds is built for you. Topology mapping, configuration management with automated config backup, flow forensics and path analysis are the tools of a network engineer’s trade, and Infronest does not pretend to match that depth. A team whose day job is the network itself will miss those tools immediately.
The same holds at raw scale. Distributed polling engines and enterprise editions exist because some estates have tens of thousands of monitored elements across many sites, and that is the problem SolarWinds has spent twenty years engineering for.
The switch makes sense when monitoring is one need among several: you also pay for a helpdesk, an asset register, patching or endpoint tools, and the monitoring platform is priced per node for depth you do not use. That is the consolidation case, and it is the only case we argue.
What consolidating actually changes day-to-day
The visible change is fewer consoles and one renewal. The useful change is that an alert does not dead-end in the monitoring tool: it becomes a ticket against a known asset, the asset is the same record the helpdesk sees, and the device’s patch level and open vulnerabilities are on the same screen. Nobody copies a hostname from a monitoring alert into a separate ticketing system and re-keys the context.
For MSPs the practical difference is tenant isolation across every module, not just monitoring: each client is a separate workspace covering their monitored infrastructure, tickets, assets, devices and VAPT findings, with remote desktop sessions isolated per organisation through the MeshCentral integration.
Security & compliance considerations
Monitoring platforms hold privileged credentials — SNMP strings, WMI accounts, API keys — so tenancy and audit trails matter. Infronest keeps each organisation in a tenant-isolated workspace, and evidence an auditor asks for — device compliance, patch state, ticket history, monitoring incidents — lives in one place rather than across separate vendors and export formats.
Infronest is India-based and DPDP-aligned, which simplifies processor conversations for Indian organisations. The VAPT module also means the platform that watches your infrastructure can run and document security testing against it, with CVSS-scored findings and retests — a different job from observability, and one the SolarWinds portfolio does not include.

SolarWinds licenses per node. Its Observability Self-Hosted pricing page lists Essentials starting at $8, Advanced at $14 and Premier at $17.50 per node per month, on node-based subscriptions sold as multi-year contracts billed annually. Several classic modules — NPM, SAM, NCM and others — are also sold as separately priced products, and larger deployments are quoted.
Infronest prices the platform flat — ₹29,999, ₹49,999 or ₹94,999+ per month for the whole workspace — and that fee covers monitoring alongside helpdesk, IT assets, patching and the other modules. Device management is a per-user add-on (MDM ₹300–700 per user by tier) rather than a per-node meter on the monitoring side.
The structural difference: a per-node bill scales with how much infrastructure you monitor, while a flat platform fee stays constant as you add nodes and also covers the tools around the monitoring. Run both models against your own node count and current tool list — the right answer depends on your estate, so we publish the models and let you compute.
Migrating from SolarWinds to Infronest
Be realistic about two things first. Historical metric data almost never migrates between monitoring platforms — years of SolarWinds performance history stay in SolarWinds, so export the reports you need for capacity planning and audits before the licence lapses. And alert logic does not port either: thresholds, dependencies and notification policies are rebuilt in Infronest, not imported, so treat the alert-rule rebuild as the real work of the migration.
The mechanics are otherwise straightforward. Network devices are re-added via SNMP — the same community strings and v3 credentials you already use — and servers get the Infronest agent in place of, or alongside, the existing polling. Run the two systems in parallel for a few weeks and compare what each catches; parity on the alerts you actually act on is the cutover criterion, not a calendar date.
- Export your monitored-node inventory and alert definitions from SolarWinds (reports/CSV). This is the build sheet for the new system and your audit record of the old one.
- Add network devices to Infronest monitoring using your existing SNMP credentials, and deploy the Infronest agent to Windows and Linux servers.
- Rebuild alert rules deliberately: recreate only the alerts your team acts on, with thresholds and notification routes reviewed rather than copied. Alert definitions do not import.
- Parallel-run for two to four weeks. Compare alert parity on real incidents and tune thresholds before trusting the new system alone.
- Export historical performance reports and capacity-planning data from SolarWinds before the subscription ends — metric history does not migrate.
- Cut over notification routes, decommission pollers, and keep the node inventory export as evidence of a clean handover.
What you lose by switching
SolarWinds is a network-monitoring specialist with two decades of depth, and leaving it has real costs. Weigh these before you commit:
- Deep network tooling: NetFlow traffic analysis, network configuration management with config backup and change tracking, NetPath-style path analysis and detailed topology mapping. - The wider module ecosystem — database performance analysis, storage and virtualization monitoring — if you use those alongside the core network products.
